Flat roof building and repair tips West Midlands
Requiring high levels of expertise and experience, flat roofs are typically constructed with roof joists spanning the gap between two walls, or attached to an outside wall spanning to an adjacent supporting wall as in the case of most attached garages. With either of these examples these joists are covered with a sheet material, usually wood, which in turn must be covered with a waterproof layer.
The weight of the sheet layer and waterproofing layer together with the span must be taken into account when deciding on the correct size of the supporting joists, other considerations should include roof loadings, such as snow or gravel beds. Flat roofs should also have a slight pitch to allow for the drainage of water and this water needs to be carefully calculated and accounted for within the disposal requirements.
All roof builds and replacements should comply to current building regulation requirements.
